Alex Lacson

Nine years ago, Alex “Pinoy” LACSON and his wife seriously thought of leaving the Philippines and migrating to the U.S. or Canada. The Philippines was very chaotic at the time, and many of their relatives and friends were also leaving the country for the so-called “greener pastures” abroad.

But after seriously thinking about it, they decided to stay.

However, one of the things that always worried Alex is this: “What if our Philippines does not progress in the next 20 or 30 years?” In his desire to be part of the solution, he decided to do the little things that anyone could do to help the country.

One these little things came in July 2004, when it was publicly announced that our country was facing a serious financial crisis. There was a dramatic call for every Filipino to help the country. A number of Filipinos took that call seriously. For his part, Alex asked himself what he could do to help the country. After thinking about it for a few days, he decided to contribute his best talent: writing.

He buried himself in writing, and seven months later, Alex finished this book, 12 Little Things Every Filipino Can Do To Help Our Country. The book was edited by his wife.

In less than six months from its publication, the book became a national bestseller. The book is now on its ninth printing, as many companies, schools, organizations, and individuals order copies of the book in bulk. Alex himself became busy, giving talks and speeches in different parts of the country and even outside of the Philippines. Since the book’s publication in 2006, Alex has been receiving an average of 250 speaking invitations per year to share the book’s message.

Truly, the book is like a good virus that has infected so many Filipinos.

A lawyer by profession, Alex finished law at the U.P. College of Law in Diliman. He also took up post-graduate studies at Harvard Law School in Cambridge, Massachusetts and studied at the Philippine Military Academy in Baguio for three years.

At present, he is a partner at the Malcolm Law Office in Makati and a columnist (on-leave) of the newspaper Business World. Alex was formerly a legal counsel of the United Nations Development Programme (or UNDP) in the Philippines. He is a champion debater and a sharpshooter, and was also a recipient of the Galing Pilipino Award for 2005 and the Young Filipino Achiever’s Award for 2006. He is also a recipient of the Model Filipino award given by the Edsa People Power Commission in February 2009.

Alex "Pinoy" Lacson is 44 years old, married to a beautiful wife, and father to four wonderful children.
