Danny Lim

Gen. Danilo LIM belongs to a rare breed of scholar soldiers. His first assignment after graduating from West Point in the United States was in Mindanao, where he was wounded twice in combat in Sulu. His division commander, Brig. Gen. Emilio Luga, Jr., once described him as the bravest lieutenant he has ever met. As a seasoned Scout Ranger Officer, he was long involved in anti-insurgency, anti-terrorism, and anti-secessionist operations. Respected in military circles for his idealism, integrity, expertise and bravery, he remains unstained even by the slightest hint of corruption. Columnist Julius Fortuna wrote, “he is probably the most credible military officer today”.

In a recent newspaper article, Alejandro Lichauco described him as “one of the military figures today that so powerfully represents the face of integrity and valor expected of the nation’s soldier.” He added, “Danny Lim represents moral rectitude in the armed forces”.

Brigadier General Danilo Lim, or “Danny” as he is called by family and friends, was born and raised in Solano, Nueva Vizcaya. His father was a “Tsinoy” while his mother was a native blood of Bohol. He is the youngest of five brothers.

He finished elementary and high school in Solano with flying colors. He was in his first year in the University of the Philippines when he took the entrance exams to the Philippine Military Academy. He topped the exams. While a plebe, he took the entrance exams to the US Military Academy at West Point, one of the world’s premier military academies. He topped the exams.

After graduation, he returned to the country and took the Scout Ranger Course, where he graduated not only No.1 but also led his team in registering the only encounter of the class during the test mission. He opted to be assigned to Jolo after that. He commanded the forward Recon Unit of the 1st Infantry (Tabak) Division in Sulu, where his name became a byword due to his combat exploits. He was wounded twice in combat.

He also commanded the 42nd Infantry Battalion where he again made a name for himself for the various combat accomplishments of his unit. He also endeared himself to the Bicolanos in Camarines Sur, where his battalion was based. He later became the regiment commander of the elite First Scout Ranger Regiment.

Despite all his achievements and accolades this soft-spoken and modest officer has consciously chosen to live a simple life dedicated to serving his country and people.

In February 2006 and November 2007, he joined multi-sectoral groups in their collective call for the resignation of GMA.

BGen. Lim is married to the former Aloysia Tiongson and they are blessed with a daughter, Aika.
